Charity Talk in aid of Thomas' Fund
We welcomed over 100 guests for drinks and canapes in the dining room before heading over to the Theatre to hear first of all Nicky Broughton's moving account of her son Thomas' fight against a rare brain tumour which tragically he did not win. Nicky and her husband Nat decided to set up a named fund, via Children's Cancer & Leukaemia Group, in Thomas' memory to concentrate on cutting edge research into his specific rare cancer.
With a theatre full of a deeply moved audience, Gilly Halcrow was introduced and the story Christopher Robin Milne (and his bear!) unfolded. With some lovely old photographs and illustrations along with some of A.A. Milne's immortal poems ('They're Changing Guard at Buckngham Palace' and 'Vespers' of course), Gilly told us the story of the Milne family and Christopher's life. It also gave a bit of a taste of what life was like in the area (local to the majority of the audience) in the first half of last century and was much enjoyed by all.
To finish the evening off the raffle was drawn and the total raised for the evening announced - a fantastic £4000. If anyone would like to send a donation to the Fund please go to http://www.cclg.org.uk/
