Sports Day 2017
Sports Day - June 10th 2017
The Ashdown spell on the weather worked again and we were blessed with a beautiful sunny day but with enough of a breeze to rather persistently blow over the hurdles as well as keep us from boiling. As usual the Patrols paraded onto the Patch singing/shouting their rallying calls before battle commenced for the ultimate goal – the Patrol Cup. Along the way the battle of the tug o’war rope gave way to the putting of the shot, javelin throwing, long and high jumping as well as the races around the fantastically prepared track. Small brothers and sisters, parents and OAs vied for glory in the visitors’ races – a lemon and spoon race with hurdling thrown in for good measure! When not competing there was the chance to hurl ourselves down the water slide, have our faces painted, smash crockery or munch on waffles at the Leavers’ Stalls or make for the beer and Pimms tent for refreshment. Lunch was accompanied by the Edenbridge Brass Band (with Charles the Turkey trying very hard to drown out!) and a super day culminated in the Kangs coming away victorious and, individually, Roland and Sonia. Rather than a guest speaker, each of the 1s told us about the Ashdown memories they will take with them when they leave - a lovely way to (almost) round off their Ashdown careers. Now for a well deserved half term!
